Marathon # 4 - Modesto Marathon CA This marathon being a road race was a break from the mountains (though mountain scenery beats road races anyday).    Modesto didn't disappoint!   Great scenery (orchards, green fields, rows of grapevines, canals) Awesome local runners (that included a large contingent of Modesto Teens who were on the full marathon course - good sign for a community where the teens are into long distance running!) Super awesome spectators who were very creative with their own water stops for the runners (one house had beer kegs out, "with a sign DNF line starts here"!) and overall a lovely weather.    Josh (I hope I got his name right) With Josh at Finish Met some incredible people on the race.  Josh (?) doesn't have hands and legs but that isn't the reason to stop him from conquering a marathon distance.  He is the first person I have seen finishing a marathon on skateboard. Watching him pedal through was humbling.   Fi
I  suppose doing a marathon is a lot like growing things and feeding folks - if you do it well, you don't have energy at the end of the day to complain about much   -- One Modesto Farmer, in response to how he felt about road closures during the race. This Sunday is marathon #4 for Lotus Petal (tinyurl.com/arun12in12lp).   Modesto is California’s country side, land of farmers and if you have been there, you know the Punjab पिंड  feel, the fresh air and नंगल  like नहर  running around the edge of farms :)  Never got to run in Punjab during childhood days but this comes close! Love the priorities the city has, as engraved on their city gate - "Water Wealth Contentment Health" So off to run in the peaceful country side, vineyards, orchards and to say thanks to the farmers who put food on the table.  Would like to mention how this marathon has gone over and beyond accommodating runners. 1.
